The program

Our week crash course covers the basics of manga technique, both froma a graphic and narrative point of view. Starting with lectures on how to draw well balanced human figures and working your way to the fundamentals employed in drafting the layout of a manga, you'll study a variety of topics and techniques.

Beginner level

Breaking the human figure into simple geometric shapes; body structure; hair designs; hands and feet; dynamic poses; fundamentals of inking techniques with Japanese pen nibs; facial expressions, emotions, and feelings; basics of character design; layout and structure of yon-koma manga; colour balance on black and white pages; framing, angles, and standpoints.

Intermediate level

Aori and fukan perspective; clothing, accessories, and props; page layout; higher-level inking techniques; fundamentals of Japanese screen tones; lights and shadows; basics of story writing and treatment.

All inclusive

The course fees cover all the tools and art supplies you will be using in class, as well as board and lodging (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), English interpreter, workshops, activities and private tours.
Beginner level is 750,30 euros
Intermediate level is 780,80 euros.
NO payment is required during the application procedure. A layaway plan available as a payment option.

Transfer

From Pisa to Volterra

Students may rent a car at the Pisa International Airport or they may take the Academy shuttle service. The latter is cheaper and connects the International Airport and the Central Railway station to the school in Volterra.
Departure and arrival time at the Airport is 3:00 p.m..
You will be asked to choose after the application procedure.

Some rules

The summer international course is not a relaxing vacation. A noisy party time neither. Age doesn't matter. Teachers and technical staff is not there to help you "have fun". We gather in Volterra to study, work hard and learn. During the course, a correct behaviour is required. You will receive the rules with the acceptance document before any payment is done. We suggest you to consider all other options before investing your time in it.
